Are you interested in helping to Support the Pro Bono Counseling Program?

What is the Pro Bono Counseling Program?

The Pro Bono Counseling Program links volunteer mental health professionals with those who need but cannot afford mental health counseling. The program’s volunteers are licensed and insured mental health professionals who provide short-term counseling (12 sessions or less) at no cost to the recipient. If you do not qualify for the Pro Bono Counseling Program, our staff will connect you with other community resources. The program is currently available in Franklin and Fairfield counties in Ohio.

The Pro Bono Counseling Program is a program of Mental Health America of Ohio. We are a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1956. The program opened its doors on February 22, 2011.

Why Pro Bono Counseling?

We are living in challenging times. The current economic uncertainty combined with other personal struggles is causing many people in our community higher-than-normal amounts of stress, fear and anxiety about the future. Despite Medicaid expansion and programs with sliding fee scales, many individuals remain without insurance or have insurance plans that do not cover their mental health need. As a result, these individuals and families with mental health needs delay or forego treatment due to their inability to afford the cost of services.
