Why We Rise…

We Rise for Black Moms & Birthing persons because we know we are less likely to have our symptoms addressed, despite the fact that we are at a higher risk for maternal depression and anxiety. POEM’s Rise branch is by and for Black moms & birthing persons. We provide peer support, care navigation including a network of providers of color, support groups, community engagement, as well as awareness and education opportunities that are exclusively for us and by us.

Rise Community Events

Our Rise team is building connections in our communities. We aim to share resources and information that raises awareness for our moms and birthing people. Culturally responsive care and support is essential. Stay engaged by signing up for POEM’s monthly newsletter, following our programming on social media, and checking out our special events calendar.

About Rise

POEM Rise provides services exclusively by and for Black mothers, including a providers of color network. We Rise for Black moms because we know that Black women are at a higher risk for maternal depression/anxiety and are less likely to have their symptoms addressed with quality care.

Rise services are free of charge and include:

  • Mom-to-Mom Support Line (614-315-8989): The Certified Peer staff at POEM listens and understands like only peers can. Receive a caring and understanding voice, access to specialized counseling, and/or referrals to support services for pregnancy and infant loss.
  • Mentoring Program: Mentors are Black moms and birthing persons who’ve been there. They can talk through the challenges of motherhood and offer guidance, emotional support, and helpful information when you need it.
  • Rise Support Groups: Peer support groups meet regularly and offer the opportunity to get support from other Black moms and birthing persons in the community.
