About

The Ohio Collaborative for Perinatal Mental Health is comprised of perinatal mental health professionals working to amplify the delivery of maternal mental health treatment throughout the state. The Collaborative works in partnership with the POEM Program of Mental Health America of Ohio.

POEM (Perinatal Outreach and Encouragement for Moms) closes gaps in care for pregnant and parenting women with maternal mental health complications. Through care navigation layered with certified peer support, POEM serves as a single-entry point of care, providing mental and emotional care through the perinatal period. POEM provides mom-to-mom mentoring, support groups, talk/text support line, and access to specialized maternal mental health clinicians. Rise, POEM’s Equity Initiative, provides services exclusively by and for Black and African American mothers.

POEM is the Ohio chapter of Postpartum Support International (PSI), an organization that is the world’s leading authority on maternal mental health. The Ohio Collaborative for Perinatal Mental Health is partially funded by the Ohio Chapter of PSI with funds raised through an annual walk, Climb Out of the Darkness Ohio.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ohio Collaborative for Perinatal Mental Health is to enhance access to and delivery of mental health treatment throughout the state. With a focus on perinatal wellness, the collaborative supports individuals and couples on their parenting journeys from conception, including infertility and loss, through pregnancy and parenting young children, as well as when navigating fostering and/or adoption.

The focus on access includes acknowledgment of systemic inequities present in communities across Ohio, specifically those that have been shown to increase the prevalence of maternal mental health complications. To enhance the treatment of perinatal mental health, the collaborative offers our interdisciplinary network of providers access to centralized resources, continuing education, connection to peers, and enhanced collaboration with POEM.

Vision

The vision of the Ohio Collaborative for Perinatal Mental Health is that every person navigating the perinatal space will have the opportunity to access high-quality interdisciplinary care without barriers.
